The peach okimono is a Sozan staple, slightly larger than life at 18 cm across, the crisp white clay is covered in soft green celadon. Here the leaves cling lightly to the sides ofthe firm fruit, all in the brilliant sheen of porcelain. The peach is a scholarly image often associated with China and the literati movement. It is an indicator of long life. Sozan (1852-1922) was born in Kutani country, present day Ishikawa prefecture, where he initially studied before moving to Tokyo in 1875. O ...click for details

A porcelain kogo incense box in the shape of two wasps on a comb by Akamatsu Hakusai enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Sheer white porcelain covers the intricately formed creatures as they tend to their work. The legs are so thin it is amazing they withstood the heat.
