Bronze vase titled fish by Kyoto artist Shoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is covered in an unusual purple and red patina mixed with tarnished silver. The vase is 10 inches (25 cm) tall and in perfect condition.

An exquisite vase of dark purple-tinged shakudo by preeminent Japanese metalworker Nakagawa Joeki enclosed in the original signed wooden box. They say a true artist can be measured in the simplest of forms, and this is perfectly created with a cut twig on one side, the nodules from the base of the bamboo visible below where it curved out from the forest floor. A butterfly with folded wings sits astride this fine hammer-formed mixed metal koro dating from the first half of the 20th century signed on the base above the Jungin (solid silver) stamp. The dark mottled body is decorated with arcs of black Ukin-Shakudo over Mokume-gane; the lower half tarnished Shibuichi supported on feet finished with Nanryo silver scrollwork. A superb hand made bronze incense burner by designated Nihon Dento Kogeishi Inami Keishu (Yasuhisa, b. 1909) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Raised rivets and the six petal openings in the lid are ringed with fine silver thread, smooth and crisp against the mottle-textured bronze surface. It sits on a circular base pierced with rectangular windows and dates circa 1980. The Koro is roughly 5 inches (13 cm) tall, 4 inches (10.5 cm) diameter and in perfect condition. A hand formed deep basin covered with applied silver, gold, shakudo and other metals; dragonflies soar under silver clouds, the sides deeply scored below like gusts of Autumn rain. The vase, by Arita Toshiaki, is signed below and enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 8-1/2 inches (22 cm) tall, 7-1/2 inches (19 cm) square and in excellent condition. This piece was displayed at the 1955 Nitten National Exhibition and is published on page 496 of the Nitten-shi (catalog number 18).
