A fine maki-e wood writing box with silver rim decorated with autumn grasses in various colors and shades of nashiji sprinkled gold on ro-iro highly polished black. It was made in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of Hitachi Avionics and likely dates circa 1940, signed inside the lid by the artist in the lower left corner of the inscription. A pair of miniature screens enclosed in a custom made wooden box dating from the early Showa era, first half of the 20th century. Sprays of blossoming plum and rustling stands of bamboo grow robustly in the late winters cool, a gold sheen in the background promising the coming of Spring. The screens measure 14-3/4 by 34 inches (38 x 86 cm) each. They are in excellent condition with only some minor puckers in the right hinge of the left screen.

The peach okimono is a Sozan staple, slightly larger than life at 18 cm across, the crisp white clay is covered in soft green celadon. Here the leaves cling lightly to the sides ofthe firm fruit, all in the brilliant sheen of porcelain. The peach is a scholarly image often associated with China and the literati movement.
