A single character, Jaku (Youth), is inscribed in a red cartouche in the center of this bowl signed the 96 year old man Gempo and enclosed in the original wooden box. It is 4-3/4 inches (12 cm) diameter, 3 inches (8 cm) tall and in fine condition.

An exquisite rendering of a bee, paused in flight by the intoxicating scent of a poppy over which he soars by Matsumoto Senkyo enclosed in a fine wooden box. A pottery jar in the shape of an octopus tsubo to which clings one of the fantastic 8 legged creatures. I believe this is likely Tobe-yaki, from the Island of Shikoku, although there are no marks or indications, only the name of a store impressed into the side, Mikuniya. It is roughly 8 inches tall, 5 inches diameter plus the bulbous head of the animal. There is a chip near the eye, and on two legs (see close-up photos).

A haunting view of a house glowing ghostlike, lost amid the dark forest by Hirai Baisen enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The box is titled Yukyo, loosely translated “ghost house”, but literally, “barely present”. Bold washes and a very wet brush allows the ink to soak the paper creating large swaths of bokashi bleeding into each other on the edges. An unusal tri-legged bronze incense burner with finialed dome pierced top signed on the underside by Hori Joshin.
