Robert has been working with disaster relief group IDRO Japan in the earthquake affected areas of Kumamoto, and this has caused some delays in listing, messaging and shipping. Unusual round tile made to sit under the Furo (brazier) in a Japanese Tea Room. It is blasted with crystallized green ash glaze running in rivulets across the rough surface over fern-like iron designs. It is 12 inches (30 cm) diameter, roughly 1 inch (3 cm) thick and in fine condition. There is a chip in one of the thick beads of glaze in the center.

Stones lead through bamboo of inlaid hardwood set into a large panel by Yokoyama Ichimu enclosed in a large wooden frame. It is perfect craftsmanship, in an understated style which equates perfectly with the Japanese aesthetic. In the original artist frame it is 106.5 x 106.5 cm (42 x 42 inches) and is quite heavy. It comes in a blue-cloth wrapped box typical of department store art storage bearing the artists seal and titled Seijaku (Silence)...

An ivory porcelain by Kato Keizan with the original shiori and wrapping cloth in the original signed wooden box titled “carved handled vase”. The body is carved with ethnic style imagery, popular in the 1940s and 1950s. Enclosed is a pamphlet from a shipping company dated 1958, and the vase was given as a gift to commemorate the inauguration of the ship Fuzan-maru. The vase is 11 inches (27.5 cm) tall and is in excellent condition.

A silk Fukusa presentation cloth hand painted with an image of Kannon (quanyin) by Satsuki Kakunen dated 1930 and enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 50 x 55 xm and in excellent condition, wrapped around a cloth pillow to keep it from creasing and inside white cloth to keep it clean inside its box. Satsuki Kakunen was a Nanga artist studied under Tomioka Tessai active in Kyoto from the Taisho to early Showa eras. Ryoanji Temple holds a Dragon painting by him.

Carp move effortlessly through the crystal water, as if swimming through the air below the hanging branch of fresh green maple on this four panel screen by Komiya Daichu dating from the early Showa period. A ragged pine inundated with blossoms decorates this silk fukusa presentation cloth by Tanaka Hakuin. It is 20 x 21 inches (51 x 54 cm). There are some discolorations as is visible in the photographs. It is backed in red with a butterfly crest and features gold thread tassels.

A gold and silver rabbit forage among autumn grass on the raw kiri-wood surface of this suzuri bako lacquered in the red on black Negoro style inside and enclosed in the original wooden box titled Usagi Maki-e Suzuri Bako. A raw kiri-wood tray decorated with bamboo sasa-grass in gold maki-e dating from the first part of the twentieth century enclosed in the original wooden box signed Toyosai. It is 15-1/2 x 11-1/2 x 1 inches (39.5 x 29 x 2.5 cm). There are a few small abrasions in the wood, but hardly noticeable. Excellent for use.
