Thank you to everyone for their patience during the last few months since the Kumamoto Earthquake. Robert has been working with disaster relief group IDRO Japan in the earthquake affected areas of Kumamoto, and this has caused some delays in listing, messaging and shipping. A screen featuring the gate at Hikone Castle by Honjo Toen exhibited at the 1927 Teiten (mod. Nitten) National Exhibition Pigment on silk in a brocade border with original red lacquered wooden frame and cloth backing. It is in overall fine condition. Some chips in the lacquer frame have been filled, and some water marks are present in the center and upper left of the screen. It is 187 x 140 cm (73-1/2 x 55 inches).

A large bronze vase inlayed with a silver net over-layed by goldfish, upper and lower diapers of curling waves by Shuko enclosed in the original signed wooden box dated Showa 7 (1932). Inside the lid is a red label from the Tanaka Kiyogoro store in Tokyo Nipponbashi. It is titled Gin-ami Kabin, Gin Koshoku Kingyo Moyo (Silver Net Vase with Old Silver color Goldfish Design). It is roughly 11 inches (28 cm) tall, the same diameter and in excellent condition.

An unusual basket shaped ceramic vessel surmounted by a frog by Ito Tozan enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is roughly 9 inches (23 cm) diameter, 5 inches (13 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Ito Tozan I (1846-1920) began as a painter in the Maruyama school studying under Koizumi Togaku. In 1862 he became a pupil of Kameya Kyokutei, as well as studying under Takahashi Dohachi III and Kanzan Denshichi (who made the dishes for the imperial table)...

A fine image of Shimbashi Rain-Kyoto by Clifton Karhu in the original frame numbered signed and dated 73, 61/80. This same print is held in the collection of the Spencer Museum of Art. A large cylinder taken from the base of bamboo carved with three frogs signed Amanohashi Shujin Usho-saku and dated Showa 8 (1933), enclosed in a period wooden box. One of the creatures rests quietly in a hollow, while two others climb the side, one of those surmounting the top. Brilliant yellow glazed walls are inscribed with Tea Utensils and a cartouche made from Kanji characters on this three legged Binkake Hibachi for use in Sencha steeped tea. It comes in an old wooden box dated summer 1923, stamped and signed by Asamoto Kakuzan. It is 18 x 20 x 13 inches (46 x 51 x 33 cm) and is in fine condition. The signature cartouche on the brazier itself is dated 1922 in the Chinese style.
