As many may know we at The Kura have been heavily involved in the relief effort in Tohoku following the 2011, March 11 Earthquake and Tsunami which killed at least 26,000 people, and left hundreds of thousands homeless. During this last year we have neglected the website, and inconvenienced many with delays in service. Please know it was not without good reason, and your patience and understanding through this difficult time for Japan has been very much appreciated. The exquisite features are everything we would expect from the high caliber of Kyoto Doll Craft. Sitting here with a golden court cap tied with silk chord, and wrapped in chirimen silk, he clutches a golden crane under one arm. The doll is 8 inches (20 cm) tall and in fine condition. Some of the rows of me (root-eyes) are visible in the shiny exposed bit below the curling lotus leaf stalk. The carving is all performed with an ara-bori flare, like the back of an old Noh mask, chisel marks forming the veins of the drying leaves.
