A beautiful Japanese garden estate is sketched around the outside of this bowl with a painting within of fruits by western oil painter Aoki Koho (b. 1891) the bowl stamped Jusoken Kikko. The outlines of buildings are hidden among rocks and trees, stone lanterns and bamboo glades. The inscription within reads Ito Kei Shinchiku Kinnen (In commemoration of the building of the new Ito Residence). A large rust colored vase titled Seto Yu Karakusa by Kiyomizu Rokube V enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The long neck is scored with horizontal rings, under which floral designs are carved into the body. An excellent example of this artists work circa 1920. It comes with the dark original Rose-wood stand pictured. The vase is 17 inches (43 cm) tall and in excellent condition. A set of five antique Kenzan style plates decorated with Momiji maples on crackled cream colored glaze from Inuyama, outside Nagoya, enclosed in an antique wooden box. In the center of each dish is a character Sakigake in a green dial (Sakigake is the brightest star in the big dipper), meaning to excel above all others. They are 8 inches (19.5 cm) diameter and in fine condition. Very rare to find a complete set of dishes like this.

The Japanese Idea of wabisabi is presented here in this 19th century mizusashi fresh water container of creamy-white porcelain decorated with a rambling landscape punctuated by a loan scholar staring out over the seas. The raw, hard-wood lid is custom made to fit the slightly out of square form and the pot comes in a wooden box made from an old sugar crate. A large and rare Ninsei style pottery Koro by Miyanaga (Makuzu) Kozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box bearing the Teishitsu Gigei-In stamp. The pierce work spherical body of stylized clouds is surmounted by a colorful phoenix, its tail feathers falling and wrapping about the body. Oko incense would have been burned in a small pot forming the base, the smoke filtering out thorugh the clouds. A unique and exceptionally rare piece by this defining artist. A proud Kuro-Raku Chawan perfect for summer tea bearing the Raku stamp on the base. It has a low undulating rim and small stable foot making it appear to float like a black cloud. It is more than 5 inches (13 cm) diameter, 2-1/2 inches (6.5 cm) to the rim and in excellent condition. It comes enclosed in a wooden box.
