A tiny devil runs on hollowed clouds, clutching a go-rin-no-to stupa in his hands as he makes his escape. A playful and unique image, the piece is expertly carved, the clouds below his feet entirely hollowed out. The musculature and bones in the back are well defined, as is the hair on his animal skin skirt. Wear typicalofage but no damage. It is 1-3/4 inches (4.5 cm) tall and in fine condition likely dating from the later 19th century (Meiji).
