An antique Japanese Bronze Basket with a fixed handle of wrapped bronze wovewn into the base. Each strip of bronze is slightly curved toward the outside, as if taken from a large tube, which protects anything placed within from the edges. A lot of work for so simple an item, typical of the high quality expected of Japanese art from the Meiji period. It is 10 inches (25.5 cm) across, 8 inches (20 cm) to the top of the handle and in fine condition.
