A hawk alights cautiously on the gnarled end of a ragged plum, a sparrow clutched screaming in one vicious talon; a rare opportunity to acquire a bronze by one of the Meiji periods true masters, Oshima Joun (1858-1940). The okimono is entirely performed in dark olive patina, with only the sharp gold rimmed eyes gleaming from the hunched form. It is 15 inches (38 cm) tall, 12 inches (30.5 cm) wide and roughly 9 inches (23 cm) deep, weighing 10.5 kg (23 pounds); in excellent condition. Oshima J ...click for details

Rising from a gently sloping crest of Shibuichi, stylized pines in dark Shikin-Shakudo are silhouetted against the jungin silver skyline of this elegant art-nouveau influenced vase signed in a gold cartouche on the base Gikan. It is only upon removing the inner silver sleeve that we realize this mirror smooth piece has been hammer-formed, every tap the artist performed visible within. The vase is just over 6 inches (15.5 cm) tall, 6 inches (16 cm) diameter. There is a shallow pinhead sized di ...click for details
