A cleft of white devides the black sides of this proud antique Kuro Oribe Chaire tea urn which is enclosed in an antique wooden box. The wet clay has been cut at the foot, formed and gashed before dipping into the two colored glazes and decorated with hanging flowers. It retains the orginal gold lined white ceramic lid. The piece is 3-3/4 inches (9 cm) tall, 2-1/4 inches (6 cm) diameter and in excellent condition.

Weather worn raw wood robuchi perfectly joined with gold lacquer maki-e of autumn grasses and flowers (mother of pearl inlay) for use in the Japanese tea room. All joints are made in a clockwise direction, and exposed to the viewer for their inspection. It is 42.5 cm (16-3/4 inches) square, the wood dimensions being 3.4 x 6.8 cm (1-3/8 x 2-5/8 inches). The Robuchi is enclosed in a wooden storage box for safe keeping. One side of the box lid is missing.

A voluminous bowl covered in shattered pale glaze and enclosed in a custom antique kiri-wood box wrapped in red silk. Five spur marks are visible on both the foot and within the bowl, withone small repair to the rim. It was Sen no Rikyu who fell in love with Korean pottery, considering it the quintessential touch for the rustic setting of the Japanese Tea Room. The bowl is 6-1/2 inches (17 cm) diameter, 3-1/4 inches (8.5 cm) to the rim. Excellent for a large gathering where tea is shared.

Calligraphy playfully scrolls about the rim of this antique Karatsu-style Chawan urging us to enjoy the moment! The bowl rises from the foot in a smooth outward arch, shallow and wide, excellent for summers tea. Covered in thin green glaze leaving the raw earth of the base exposed, three spur marks rise from within. There are several minor chips to the rim, only serving to add to the ancient feeling.
