A rake and broom under and ancient pine in gold couched thread represent lifelong marital bliss and longevity on the blue silk field of this antique Fukusa backed with vermillion silk crepe. It is roughly 26 x 24 inches (67 x 60 cm) and is in fine condition but for a square stain on back where it was folded, and a missing tassel.

Overlapping fans are painted with calligraphy and a landscape by the Meiji period Bunjin artist, collector and banking magnate/politician Oku-Randen (1836-1897) dated the Autumn of 1895. An incredible amount of work went into this amazing neko-tora tiger made of thousands of stitches of couched silver thread. It is enclosed in a wooden box frame covered with glass dating from the Meiji period. The frame is 48.5 x 70 x 6.5 cm (19 x 27-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches) and is in fine condition.
