A large Edo period image of thea seated priest Shinran Shonin in polychromed robes, his glass eyes half lidded, staring silently down in meditation. It is roughly 2 feet (60 cm) tall, 15 inches wide and in good original condition. 18th to 19th century made in the yosegi style of multiple pieces of wood, there is some separation over the right arm, and loss to the polychrome on his brightly colored Kesa. Dojin Buddhist image, mid to late Edo period. Paper and polychromed gofun over wood. It is 32 x 20 x 32 cm. Missing one finger. It likely originally held a paper scroll of some form which has disintegrated over time. Great expression. The stand in the 8th picture is not included and is there as an example.

A plum blossom emblazoned on his chest identifies this enshrined Edo period figure as Tenjin, the god of learning enclosed in a beautifully patinated wooden spirit house. The soot crusted image is exquisitely carved with a benign sense of grace. The robed noble is 12 x 6-1/2 x 9 inches (30 x 16.5 x 23 cm), the shrine is 17 x 23-1/2 x 22 inches (43 x 60 x 56 cm) and both are in overall fine, aged condition...

A heavy hand forged iron candle-stand from a Buddhist temple in the shape of a burning jewel. It is 90 cm tall, 57 wide, base and legs 20 x 39 cm and dates from the 19th century. Very thick and heavy iron work.

A Bakumatsu era (mid 19th century) sculpture of the bearded Daruma, patriarch of Zen Buddhism, standing resolute with robes clasped in front. The detail is fine, with a curly beard and large rings hanging from his lobes. It is 65 cm (25 inches) tall, and in fine condition, weighing 8.5 kg (roughly 17 pounds). There is a filled hole in the base where it was once attached to a stand.

A man-headed snake coils atop this incredible mid Edo period (18th century) image of Benzaiten (Saraswati) inside a mountain shaped reliquary of dark wood. Inside the gilded cave she sits on a gilded lotus base. The figure holds a variety of sacred implements in her 8 hands. Riding on the benevolent figures head is the snake seated behind a Torii-shaped Crown settled between two Buddhist jewels...

A carving of Mary and the baby Jesus in the form of Kannon with a child carved from a burl of raw wood, and bearing a Christian cross on the base. The Pointed robes are slightly elongated, accentuating the natural form of the wood. On back is glued an old paper label reading Kakure-Kirishitan (Hidden Christian), and was likely affixed there by some former owner. It is 6-1/2 inches (17 cm) tall and in fine condition...
