A set of five porcelain tea cups by Ninnami Dohachi decorated with bamboo and poetry by Nukina Kaioku (Suo) enclosed in a superb custom period kiri-wood box with rosewood edges. Each cup is 2 inches (5 cm) tall, 2-1/2 inches (6 cm) diameter. There are old gold repairs to two of the cups, otherwise are in fine condition.

An ink on silk image of a skull dating from the Meiji period and signed Oto Sanshi. and comes enclosed in a fine period kiri-wood box. The image is bordered in brown satin and features an interesting ichimonji with the characters luck and long life. It has stag antler rollers and comes in a fine wooden box. A large piece of a temple roof tile hollowed out on top to from a suzuri ink-grinding stone for calligraphy. It has a carved wooden lid and a form fitting wooden base. 7 x 5 x 3-1/2 inches (18 x 12 x 8 cm). On the front are clearly written the characters Dai (large) Ji (Temple) and a third character I have not yet deciphered. It is possibly from Todaiji, the temple of great fame in Nara, the ancient capitol of Japan.

A set of 5 anonymous 19th century Sencha Tea Cups decorated with devils in a pseudo-Ninsei style enclosed in a period wooden box with deer-skin ties. A stunning Haisen-bowl of polished black lacquered ground with a red shunkei rim covered in blossoming vegetation, Shidare Sakura (weeping cherry blossoms), Botan (peony), kiku (Chrysanthemum) and hagi (Bush Clover). All rendered with superb craftsmanship and design in silver and gold powders. The bowl is 6 inches (15 cm) diameter, 3-1/2 inches (9 cm) tall and in excellent condition, enclosed in an old kiri-box covered in protective kaki-shibu persimmon oil.

An exceedingly rare original Ainu Kimono of elm bark fiber with an indigo dyed collar stitched with pale designs. It has been a very long time since I have seen genuine Ainu items. It is 47 inches (120cm) from collar to hem, the same from sleeve to sleeve. There are a few wormholes as visible in the photos, but overall in surprisingly good, original condition. The fibers remain strong and supple.
