A large Edo period image of thea seated priest Shinran Shonin in polychromed robes, his glass eyes half lidded, staring silently down in meditation. It is roughly 2 feet (60 cm) tall, 15 inches wide and in good original condition. 18th to 19th century made in the yosegi style of multiple pieces of wood, there is some separation over the right arm, and loss to the polychrome on his brightly colored Kesa. Anyone who has ever been to Hokkaido will know the famous carving skill of the Ainu people, the indigenous tribe from that Northern Island. White wisteria (fuji in Japanese) drape from the gilded rim of this Kutani vase signed from the preeminent Kaburagi studio and dating from the opening of the 20th century. The imagery is exquisitely performed with over-glaze enamels on a pastel gray ground. The vase is large at 13 inches (33.5 cm) tall, 8-1/2 inches (22 cm) diameter and is in excellent condition, with some wear to the gold rim.

An excellent late Edo bronze tiger on a later Meiji period wooden stand. The features are very much in the later Edo form, with a very squat face, very distinct in that era. An anonymous pine forest on gold screen dating from the later Meiji in a pale silk border with black lacquered wooden frame. It is 68-1/2 x 143-1/2 inches (174 x 364 cm).
